Over Uncovered
Nekovri is the leading organization in the Netherlands specializing in temperature-sensitive products. Nekovri members include cold storage, transport, and cold stores that add value to third-party products through their activities. Nekovri members are increasingly becoming logistics partners for manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, and retailers.
The value of goods Nekovri members store for their customers exceeds €95 billion annually. The total storage capacity of the 150 affiliated companies in the Netherlands is almost 15 million m³.
The sector is characterized by a wide variety of services and is represented in virtually all supply chains. Within these chains, cold stores and freezers are a central and crucial link. Increasingly stringent requirements regarding hygiene, food safety, and traceability are driving a growing need for temperature-controlled logistics services and strengthening the role and position of our sector, partly due to the Netherlands' important transit role in international trade.
Nekovri supports its members with facility services. It's crucial to adapt its objectives to developments in the industry and the needs of its members. Three themes are paramount: advocacy, service provision, and organization & development. Advocacy remains the primary task, but the focus is shifting from advocacy to industry organization and development.
The vision of Nekovri
The refrigeration and freezing industry is a sector:
Which is profitable;
That is respected; (by customers, governments and employees);
That partner is in the food chain;
Where quality-oriented, efficient and safe work is carried out with temperature-sensitive products;
Where innovation is always on the agenda;
Which offers attractive employment and;
Treats our children's world with respect.
Nekovri aims to achieve this vision by focusing as a trade association on the following themes:
Advocacy
Nekovri represents the interests of its members within industry umbrella organizations such as AIP (Agricultural Import Platform), NKK (Network Refrigeration and Climate Technology), MKB-Nederland (SME Netherlands), and ECSLA (The European Cold Storage and Logistics Association). Topics such as Brexit, the future of the Rotterdam inspection points, import legislation, the Climate Agreement, and F-gases are discussed there. Collaborations outside of umbrella organizations, such as those involving exports with COV and Nepluvi, are also common practice. Nekovri also represents individual interests. For example, we have a particular interest in reducing energy taxes and in the continuation of the multi-year agreements (MJA).
Nekovri wants to raise its profile and increase its visibility. It's also crucial within the supply chain that businesses, government agencies, and others are aware of our industry's existence, so that it becomes clear that the exorbitant rise in energy prices is disastrous for the food supply in the Netherlands. The majority of products handled in cold stores are intended for human consumption. Therefore, food safety is always one of the most important requirements the industry must meet. Cold stores meet numerous certifications to guarantee food safety. Nekovri is in constant contact with regulatory bodies and closely monitors developments, allowing it to quickly inform its members of any current events.
Services
Nekovri does not have a single, overarching collective labor agreement. Due to the wide diversity of its companies' activities, this has proven to be an unrealistic option. Nekovri represents the interests of its members and their employees, ensuring that certain terms, standards, rights, and obligations are accessible and clear to everyone. The HR helpdesk, the employment conditions guide, a sector-specific risk assessment and evaluation (RI&E), the wage structure, and the Arbo brochures ensure that these topics are covered within the sector.
Our Storage Conditions (the Nekovri Conditions) are available exclusively to our members. These conditions were developed in collaboration with our members. Without these conditions (also available in English and German), doing business in our sector can be challenging. Nekovri assists its members with individual questions, for example, regarding a successful appeal to the terms of delivery.
The Nekovri board has previously decided to deploy expert teams for current and/or emerging issues within the sector. Experts are practitioners, studious individuals, specialists, and/or discussion partners who, based on their knowledge, experience, interests, or enthusiasm, become part of a team. The agreement stipulates that members' questions will be answered within 48 hours. The expert teams, in collaboration with the secretariat, develop various products for Nekovri members, such as collective energy purchasing and the quality mark for insurance.
Order and development
Developments within the industry are constantly evolving. As a sector, we are committed to these developments and trends, the most notable of which is the development of the Nekovri Talent College. Nekovri strives to elevate the sector through several innovative projects. Nekovri encourages industry-wide professionalism and the development and dissemination of expertise. For example, Nekovri promotes knowledge sharing within the sector through campaigns, newsletters, meetings, conferences, and collaborations with associated (partners).
Policy plan
Read moreThe Nekovri policy plan defines the vision, strategic and operational objectives, and concrete actions. These priorities illustrate all relevant information for the monitoring and oversight role of the Supervisory Board (SB) and/or other stakeholders.
Thanks to intensive collaboration with related sectors, universities, colleges, and external specialist (consulting) firms, a remarkable amount has already been achieved. These blessings are worth counting! Moreover, it is essential to ensure that acquired knowledge is not lost. Cross-pollination between past results and experiences and future plans and ambitions remains essential to arrive at new, enriching insights that offer tangible added value for all parties involved.
Annual report
Read moreThe annual report is a valuable source of information, providing an overview of our association's achievements, milestones, and challenges over the past year. It offers insight into the objectives and the direction we have taken as Nekovri. The annual report is structured around several themes, each with a series of short articles.
